Geofences from Routes
Geofences are incredibly powerful and useful objects in the portal, and users approach their mastery level when they understand and utilize these objects to their maximum potential. This includes knowing and understanding the ability to create a Geofence around a Route that has been calculated in the portal. This feature has tremendous value in loss prevention and distress monitoring applications as they relate to vehicle routes, drivers being waylaid, or drivers running off-course.
Using the Get Route tool, users can map out an entire route including multiple stops and destinations. The portal is capable of calculating a number of route options to choose from, and users can drag the routes to suit their needs and desires.
Once calculated, users can click the Add Geofence button to create a Geofence in the portal around the calculated route. The portal will automatically draw the fence using the route line as a center point, and the Route Buffer (indicated by the user) as a radius measure along the entire route. Route Buffers can be up to 2000 meters wide.
Asset managers often use the Geofence from Route tool to set up Exit Fence Alerts in order to keep track of vehicles that stray too far from their travel path. Deviation from a pre-determined route can be an indicator of danger, theft, distracted driving, or a functional error in onboard navigation.
